USA – Roseburg Forest Products has shut down its Dillard Hardwood Plywood facility and will exit the hardwood plywood market as part of a long-term strategy to focus on products with stronger demand and growth potential.
The Dillard plant, one of Roseburg’s oldest operations, employed 107 workers. The company said affected employees will receive transition support and are encouraged to apply for openings at other facilities. Other operations at the Dillard complex, including MDF and lumber, will continue.
Hardwood plywood has been part of Roseburg’s business for decades, but imports now account for about 80% of the U.S. market. The company said the decision reflects a disciplined approach to competitiveness and product focus.
“Successful businesses never stand still,” said Stuart Gray, President and CEO. “We’re sharpening our focus on the products that make the best use of our high-quality veneers and fiber, supported by continued investment in operational excellence, including engineered wood, MDF, lumber, and softwood plywood.”
Since April 2023, Roseburg has invested nearly USD 700 million in its Southern Oregon operations, launching Armorite® Exterior Trim at its new Dillard Components facility and upgrading plants in Douglas and Coos counties.
“Our plywood legacy dates back to 1952,” Gray added. “We’re proud of our teams’ efforts and remain focused on evolving with market changes for long-term success.”
