SWEDEN – Nobia, leading european kitchen furniture manufacturer, has received the prestigious BREEAM Excellent certification for its new kitchen factory in Jönköping, Sweden — a recognition of its high sustainability performance in areas such as energy efficiency, material selection, waste management, and working environment.
The factory, described as Europe’s most modern kitchen production facility, integrates cutting-edge technology unique to the industry. Sustainability was embedded from the start, with measures taken before construction began in 2020 to protect local ecological values, including building stormwater ponds, relocating native plants, and preserving historical boulders.
The factory is powered entirely by renewable energy, including 10,000 square meters of solar panels with a total capacity of 2 MW. Wood waste from production is repurposed for district heating through a partnership with Jönköping Energi. A railway track into the facility also supports sustainable logistics, reducing emissions from transportation.
Nobia’s Swedish kitchen brand, Marbodal, will be produced at the site using Nordic Swan eco-labelled materials and technology that minimizes harmful emissions and extends product lifespan.
“Our new factory in Jönköping is a good example of how Swedish industry can contribute to the green transition,” says Kristoffer Ljungfelt, CEO of Nobia.
BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is one of Europe’s most established sustainability certification systems for buildings, promoting environmentally responsible construction practices.
