Dorel Restructures, Closes Furniture Plant

CANADA –  Dorel Industries Inc., one of Canada’s leading home furnishings and juvenile products manufacturers, is undertaking a major restructuring of its Home segment, marking a pivotal shift in the company’s strategy.

The move includes the closure of all domestic furniture manufacturing operations in Cornwall, Ontario—an important site for the company’s ready-to-assemble furniture—and aims to restore profitability by 2026.

Dorel will sharply reduce its Home product portfolio, concentrating on profitable categories and transferring selected SKUs to its long-standing Cosco brand. Cosco, a household name for over 90 years, has delivered consistent earnings and will now lead the restructured home business with a leaner, market-focused approach.

To further streamline operations, back-office functions from Dorel Home will merge with Dorel Juvenile’s U.S. operations, enhancing efficiency across segments. The decision, backed by consultancy EY-Parthenon, is expected to generate substantial cost savings by minimizing the company’s physical footprint and workforce.

The wind-down of furniture manufacturing is set for completion by 3Q 2025, with further details, including financial impact and affected jobs, to be shared in Dorel’s Q2 earnings report in August. The company will now focus its growth efforts on Dorel Juvenile, a globally positioned segment with strong sales and earnings momentum.
