ECUADOR – Ecuadorian wood panel manufacturer Novopan has obtained ISO 50001 certification, confirming the successful implementation of an Energy Management System (EnMS) aligned with international standards.
The certification enables the company to improve energy efficiency, cut operating costs, and reduce environmental impact.
The EnMS implementation began in December 2023, supported by Novopan’s previous experience with standards like ISO 14001. The certification audit was completed in January 2025.
“This milestone allows us to identify energy-saving opportunities and align with sustainability policies,” said Daniel Sotalin, Energy Management Assistant.
As part of the process, Novopan evaluated energy consumption from electricity, solar, biomass, and fuel, defined Significant Energy Uses (SEUs), and set performance indicators to track efficiency.
Key benefits include:
- Reduced energy and operational costs
- Improved production efficiency and less waste
- Compliance with regulations and sustainability incentives
- Enhanced market competitiveness
This certification joins Novopan’s other green initiatives, such as a biomass plant that will reduce fossil fuel use from 44% to 3% in one production line.
“It gives customers greater confidence in our sustainable products and responsible practices,” the company stated.
