GERMANY –  German wood materials manufacturer Homanit will invest USD 250 million to open its first U.S. MDF production facility in Clarendon County, South Carolina, marking the area’s largest economic development project in 20 years.

The plant is expected to create 300 jobs and begin operations in 2028.

Homanit, which operates in Germany, Lithuania, and Poland, produces medium- and high-density fiberboards for furniture, automotive, door, and industrial applications. The company selected South Carolina to better serve its U.S. customers.

“This investment is a major milestone for Homanit,” said Managing Director Fritz Homann. “Clarendon County offers the skilled workforce, infrastructure, and location we need for growth in North America.”

The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits to support the project. State Forester Scott Phillips welcomed the investment, highlighting its benefit to South Carolina’s timber industry. Clarendon County Council Chairman John E. Johnson III called the announcement a win for the community.

Homanit is one of the leading manufacturers of thin, high-quality finished MDF/HDF wood fibreboards (starting from 1,5mm) and supply the furniture, door and coating industries worldwide.
