EGYPT – Rolls-Royce has installed ten mtu gas gensets at the Egyptian Wood Technology Company’s (Wotech) production plant in northern Egypt.

The facility, which has no access to the public grid, relies entirely on the 20-cylinder mtu gensets, providing a total output of 25 MW.

Wotech’s plant produces medium-density fibreboard (MDF) from rice straw, a by-product of rice farming. It is the second facility of its kind globally and the first in Africa, repurposing rice straw into sustainable MDF for furniture and construction, reducing CO2 emissions and pollution.

Rolls-Royce worked with local partners, Engineering for Industries Co. (Inde) and Egyptian Maintenance Company (EMC), to supply mtu Series 4000 gensets and related equipment. The project is fully funded by Egypt’s oil sector.

Tobias Ostermaier, President of Rolls-Royce Stationary Power Solutions, emphasized the importance of reliable power, stating, “Our mtu gas gensets provide efficient, reliable energy with low emissions, meeting all customer needs for this off-grid project.”
