CHILE – Masisa, a leading forestry company, has made a significant stride in sustainability by achieving 67% of its energy consumption from biomass.

This renewable source, derived from organic materials such as wood and agricultural waste, is now the company’s primary energy source, surpassing both electricity and fossil fuels.

Since 2022, Masisa has prioritized clean energy, with its Cabrero and Mapal plants generating more than 1,000 GWh from biomass. This transition marks a major shift in how the company manages its energy and reinforces its commitment to a more sustainable future. It also aligns with Masisa’s goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Reinaldo Gallegos, Health, Environment, Safety, and Community Relations Manager at Masisa Chile, commented, “Achieving that two-thirds of our energy comes from renewable sources is a significant step toward a more efficient and environmentally friendly operation. We will continue driving initiatives that reduce our impact and promote a low-carbon economy.”

The Cabrero plant, in particular, operates under a model that prioritizes clean energy, optimizes processes, and reduces dependence on fossil fuels. “Every action we take, from selecting renewable energy sources to training our team, is aligned with our goal of building a cleaner, more responsible future,” Gallegos added.

Masisa’s efforts highlight its leadership in sustainability, demonstrating that it is possible to balance innovation with environmental care. The company’s success not only transforms its own operations but also sets an example for other businesses to follow on the path toward energy efficiency and emission reduction, contributing to the well-being of the planet and future generations.
