AUSTRIA – Office furniture manufacturer Bene, one of Europe’s largest, launched a thermal roof renovation project in May 2023, completing it in August 2024.

This new roof cuts heating energy demand by 50 percent. Bene also invested in a photovoltaic (PV) system that reduces annual CO2 emissions by 100 tons.

With an investment exceeding EUR 10 million, the PV system consists of 6,930 modules over 13,200 square meters, supplying one-third of the company’s electricity needs while hydropower covers the rest.

The system powers the production hall, head office, and 23 electric vehicle charging stations, generating a total output of 3 MWp, enough for about 800 households. Excess electricity is fed into the public grid, with plans to increase contributions as limits allow.

By switching to renewable energy, Bene enhances energy independence and reduces electricity costs and CO2 emissions. The company’s peak energy consumption aligns with solar energy generation, significantly decreasing reliance on the public grid.

“We are proud to complete one of our largest investments, setting a strong example of sustainability and innovation,” stated Manfred Huber, Bene’s Managing Director.

The project was financed in collaboration with Raiffeisen Bank International through a sustainable loan, highlighting how sustainable investments can lead to long-term savings and increased competitiveness.
