Peruvian Particleboard Imports Down in 1Q-2023

PERU – In the first quarter of 2024 (1Q-2024), imports of particleboard (PB/MDP) to Peru reached a total value of USD 32.11 million, representing a significant decrease of 21.4% compared to the same period in 2023 (USD 40.86 million).

1084PERÚNovopan Peru remained the largest importing company, as usual, with USD 16.76 million, though experiencing a 13.4% decline compared to the same period of the previous year (1Q-2023: USD 19.35 million).

Representaciones Martin imported PB/MDP valued at USD 5.05 million in 1Q-2024, a notable drop of 54.4% compared to the previous year (1Q-2023: USD 11.09 million). Arauco Peru followed with PB/MDP imports valued at USD 3.22 million, representing a 27.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 (1Q-2023: USD 4.44 million).

Ecuador, as customary, remained the main supplier of PB/MDP to the significant Peruvian market in 1Q-2024, with shipments totaling USD 17.15 million, marking a decrease of 10.4% compared to 2023 (1Q-2023: USD 19.13 million). Ecuador’s share in Peru’s total PB/MDP imports in 1Q-2024 was 53.4%, compared to 46.8% in 1Q-2023, an improvement of 6.6 percentage points.

Spain followed with USD 5.50 million, experiencing the largest decline among the main PB/MDP supplying countries to the Peruvian market in 1Q-2024.

Brazil was the third most important supplying country in the period with USD 4.91 million, surpassing Chile (USD 4.24 million).

This data corrects what we recently incorrectly published regarding peruvian imports of particleboard in the first 2 months of 2024.
