PERU – Peruvian particleboard (PB/MDP) imports reached a total value of USD 32.11 million in the first two months of 2024, marking an increase of 18.5% compared to the same period 2023 (USD 27.10 million).
In this two month period, Novopan Peru continued to lead PB/MDP imports into the Peruvian market, totaling USD 18.44 million, representing an important increase of 59.7% in comparison to the same period of the previous year (USD 11.55 million). Notably, Novopan Peru was the only one among the top three Peruvian importers of PB/MDP to increase purchases in the first two months of 2024.
Representaciones Martin imported PB/MDP worth USD 4.19 million in the two month period, a strong decrease of 44.1% compared to the previous year (USD 7.50 million). Arauco Peru followed with imports of PB/MDP worth USD 2.71 million that represented a decrease of 26.4% compared to the same period 2023 (USD 3.69 million).
Once again, Ecuador remained the primary supplying country of PB/MDP to the Peruvian market in the first two months of 2024, with shipments totaling USD 18.91 million, marking an important 60.3% increase compared to 2023 (USD 11.80 million). Ecuador’s share of total Peruvian PB / MDP imports in the first two months of 2024 was 58.9% compared to 43.5% in 2023, an improvement of 15.4 percentage points.
Brazil followed with USD 5.23 million (2023: USD 2.98 million). Experiencing the most significant increase among the main PB/MDP supplier countries to the Peruvian market in the first two months of 2024, with an improvement of 75.6%.
Spain droped a position and was the third supplier country in importance in the two month period with USD 4.08 million, a noticeable 15.4% decline compared to the USD 7.08 million exported to Peru in the same period 2023.
Chile followed as the fourth supplier country in the first two months of 2024, with USD 3.55 million, a decrease of 28.3% compared to same period in 2023 (USD 4.95 million).
