GERMANY – The founder and long-time managing director of Weinmann Holzbausystemtechnik GmbH, Karl Weinmann, passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2023, at the age of 70.
Karl Weinmann, after completing his studies in mechanical engineering and gaining experience as a development designer, established his own design office in 1982. In 1985, along with Alfred Schlegel, he co-founded Weinmann + Partner, the predecessor of the current Weinmann Holzbausystemtechnik GmbH. He served as the company’s managing director until 2016.
From an early stage, Karl Weinmann, alongside managing directors Alfred Schlegel and Hansbert Ott, recognized the possibilities and advantages of using wood as a material for serial construction. With his innovative ideas, he laid the groundwork for the global construction of affordable housing using prefabricated elements and modules. In 1993, the production of machinery and equipment for prefabricated wooden houses gained momentum, thanks to a substantial order from the SchwörerHaus company. As early as 1996, Weinmann supplied equipment for the largest and most modern factory for prefabricated houses in Europe.
Weinmann’s integration into the HOMAG Group in 1998 facilitated the worldwide distribution of their products. By 2005, Weinmann had become the world market leader in systems for prefabricated house construction. Today, the company employs over 200 people.
Karl Weinmann’s relentless efforts made a significant contribution to the company’s growth and its position as a world market leader. He firmly believed that success was a collective effort and held the development of his employees’ personal and professional growth close to his heart. Even after stepping down from management, he maintained strong ties with the company and its workforce. Until the end, he continued to serve as a coach for employees and managers, with his advice highly regarded and valued.
