GERMANY – Weser Industrie- und Anlagentechnik GmbH and Dieffenbacher GmbH are supplying a new pioneering and eco-friendly plant for the manufacturing of high- and medium-density fiberboards (HDF/MDF) to Egypt’s National Service Projects Organization (NSPO).
The facility is being built in the Toshka region in the South of Egypt and is scheduled to commence with the production of fiberboards from date palm fronds in the autumn of 2025.
While the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) specialist Weser in a joint venture with Egyptian EPC specialist MT Mixers acts as general contractor for this turnkey project, Deffenbacher, a leading manufacturer of press systems and complete plants for the wood-based panels industry, supplies the vast majority of components for the production facility. Further technology is provided by German Wemhöner Surface Technologies GmbH & Co. and Vits Technology GmbH. EMS-Fehn-Group, a supplier of worldwide logistics solutions and also headquartered in Germany, will be in charge of delivering all major components to the construction site.
The plant will cover an area of 400,000 square meters and use palm fronds from a neighboring 40,000-acre date farm to produce roughly 400 cubic meters of boards per day.
The idea for this unique sustainable project was originally conceived by Weser and its Egyptian partner MT Mixers in 2018. In January 2022, NSPO awarded Weser and Dieffenbacher the contract for building the plant in the Toshka area. Work on the construction site commenced in April 2023.
