Slight Increase in Value of Ecuadorian Particleboard Exports

ECUADOR – The value of Ecuador’s Particleboard/MDP (PB/MDP) exports totaled USD 15.01 million in May 2021, a slight increase of 3.8 percent compared to the same month last year (USD 14.46 million).

993ECUADOR This contrasts with the volume exported, which fell 21.1 percent from 37,214 m3 in May 2021 to 29,353 m3 in May this year.

The slight increase in the value of Ecuadorian PB/MDP exports in May brought exports in the first five months of 2022 to USD 91.67 million, a growth of 30.1 percent compared to the same period in 2021 (5M-2021: USD 70.43 million).

The value of Ecuadorian PB/MDP exports in 2021 was USD 198.17 million, which was a new annual record.

The value of Novopan’s PB/MDP exports, the country’s main manufacturer, was USD 14.79 million in May 2022 compared to USD 14.25 million in May 2021.  In 5M-2022 Novopan’s PB/MDP exports reached USD 90.7 a growth of 30.2 percent compared to 5M-2021 (USD 69.68 million).

Colombia was again the main external market for the Ecuadorian  particleboard. In May 2022 Ecuadorian PB/MDP shipped to the neighboring country was USD 8.89 million, an improvement of 23.8 percent compared to the same month last year (USD 7.18 million).

Peru was the second most important foreign market for Ecuadorian PB/MDP in May 2022. With shipments of USD 5.33 million, a drop of 7.4 percent compared to May 2021 (USD 5.76 million). The value of exports to Peru added to those to Colombia accounted for 94.8 percent of Ecuadorian exports of PB/MDP in May 2022.
