SPAIN – Garnica plans to invest more than EUR 5 million in its Llodio plant to increase pine plywood production capacity and boost its wood species diversification strategy, as well as to favor global growth and adapt to the demands of its customers.

The investment will be used for various improvements that will significantly speed up plywood production, ‎with a special focus on bottlenecks in the process. It will also step up the manufacturing capacity for filmed ‎plywood and, thanks to a new state-of-the-art technology that will be installed in the plant, improve the quality ‎of the plywood.

These new technologies will optimize the use of pine veneer and minimize waste in the production process. All these improvements will increase panel production by around 20,000 m3 per year.

This additional capacity will focus on increasing production in the pine product line and its products in combination with eucalyptus, which are all species from responsibly managed, sustainable local plantations.

These Maderas de Llodio products have a wide range of uses: from anti-slip industrial flooring, such as that installed in trucks and transportation vehicles, to formworks thanks to its smooth surface and combination of pine core reinforced with eucalyptus. These are all products that will contribute to its clients’ growth.

Work on the project is expected to begin in the second quarter of this year and is scheduled to be completed within a year—by the second quarter of 2023. All these improvements are part of Garnica’s overall ‎strategy to enhance the development of products that use wood from sustainable local plantations.

Garnica is a world leader in the plywood industry. It has headquarters and six production centers, five in Spain and one in France, to which it will soon add a seventh new facility in France’s Sud Champagne region.
