Brazilian furniture exports down 34.8% in May

BRAZIL – Brazilian exports of wooden furniture fell 34.8 percent in May 2020.

891BRASIL Affected by COVID-19, Brazilian furniture shipments abroad stood at USD 30.4 million compared to USD 46.6 million in May 2019.

The United States, although with a drop of 14.1 percent, remained in May as the main market for Brazilian exports of wooden furniture. Shipments to this market reached USD 12.3 million compared to USD 14.3 million in May 2019.

The United Kingdom was the second destination, also with a sharp drop of 48.0 percent, with USD 3.1 million in May-2020 compared to USD 6.0 million in May 2019. Brazilian wooden furniture exports to Chile and Uruguay also suffered drops of over 20 percent.

Santa Catarina and Rio Grande Do Sul were the main states of origin of Brazilian wooden furniture exports in May 2020, with USD 13.8 million and USD 8.4 million respectively, and declines of over 35 percent compared to May 2019.
