Consumption of wood panels in Brazil drops 3% in 2019

BRAZIL – As reported by IBÁ (Brazilian Tree Industry), in 2019 the consumption of wood panels in Brazil reached 6.70 million m3, a 3.0 percent drop compared to the 6.91 million m3 reached in 2018.

853IBA In 2019, consolidated sales in the domestic market reached 6.69 million m3, a 3.0 percent decrease compared to 2018 (6.90 million m3).

The export values of Brazilian wooden panels in 2019 reached USD 265 million, a sharp drop of 14.5 percent compared to USD 310 million exported in the same period of the previous year.

Latin America was the main regional export market for Brazilian wooden panels in 2019, with USD 164 million (2018: USD 179 million), which represented a drop of 8.4 percent.

The North American market continued with USD 70 million, the same level achieved in 2018.

In 2019, volumes exported by Brazilian wood panel manufacturers showed a sharp drop of 16.1 percent to 1.02 million m3 compared to 1.22 million m3 exported in 2018.

IBÁ is the association that brings together the productive chain of planted trees for industrial purposes. The Association is directed by Paulo Hartung, who assumed the executive presidency of the entity on March 18, 2019.
