PERU – In 2019, Peruvian imports of particleboard / MDP (PB / MDP) amounted to USD 100.9 million, which represented a slight drop of 2.2 percent compared to 2018 (2018: USD 103.2 million).
With a strong growth of 11.6 percent and USD 44.27 million (2018: USD 39.66 million), Ecuador again stood out in 2019 as the main supplier country of PB / MDP for the important Peruvian market.
Chile, despite a sharp drop in its shipments to Peru (-25.5 percent) in 2019, maintained its position as the second supplier country of PB / MDP to Peru with shipments for USD 23.06 million (2018: USD 30.97 million).
Spain with USD 17.26 million (2018: USD 15.50 million) and an improvement of 11.4 percent was the third supplier country, surpassing Brazil in 2019.
With a decrease of 7.8 percent, Brazil was the fourth supplier country, reaching USD 14.67 million (2018: USD 15.91 million).
The main importing company in Peru in 2019 was again Novopan Peru, with USD 43.96 million (2018: USD 38.75 million), which represented a significant increase of 13.4 percent and a 43.5 percent share of total PB / MDP imports of the country in 2019. This amounts to an improvement of 6.0 percentage points compared to 2018 (37.5 percent share).
The second importing company was Representaciones Martín with USD 15.83 million, a growth of 7.5 percent and a 15.7 percent share of the total value imported in the year (2018: 14.3 percent share).
Maderas América was the fastest growing import company (63.0 percent) in 2019, from USD 2.91 million registered in 2018 to USD 5.38 million in 2019.
