Record quarter for Tecnotabla

MEXICO – Tecnotabla, Proteak’s MDF unit, obtained record in sales the 3Q-2019.

The quarter ended with a volume of 52.2 thousand m3 and revenues of MXN 307 million, 13 percent higher than 2Q-2019 and up 14 percent against the same quarter of 2018. Additionally, the value-added strategy continues to drive the growth of this segment and as a result in the 3Q-2019 the company obtained a record high in value-added sales and exports.

Significant improvements continue to be seen in the mix of value-added sales and in exports to the United States. In 3Q-2019, the percentage of melamine sales was up 14 percent in Mexico, with a growth of 89 percent against 3Q-2018, and exports to the United States were 14 percent of the total volume, with a 48 percent growth against 3Q-2018. So far this year, the volume of added value has grown 82 percent and exports 50 percent against 2018.

So far this year, healthy growth is maintained, with a 16 percent growth in income against the same period in 2018. On the other hand, in the last quarter a slowdown in the demand generated mainly by the economic situation begins to be perceived. In general, there is a perception of downward demand and reduction in construction, also the pressure on the price and an increase in imports mainly from Brazil continues.

In the market share, Tecnotabla maintains a solid position in second place, after the integration of Arauco with Masisa, which combined became leaders. Tecnotabla remains with 20 percent participation of the total, but it is important to highlight that in the segment of added value boards, Tecnotabla’s share improved considerably, reaching 25 percent vs. 17 percent obtained in 2018.
