PERU – In the January-May 2018 (5M-2018) period, Peruvian imports of PB/MDP amounted to USD 37.3 million, which represented a strong increase of 16.4% compared to the same period of 2017 (USD 32.0 million).
The strong recovery of Peruvian imports of PB/MDP was noteworthy in the last 2 months of the period (April and May), considering that in the first quarter of the year they had fallen 13.8%.
During the 5M-2018 period and with an increase of 22.8%, Ecuador continued as the main supplier country of PB/MDP to the important Peruvian market with USD 15.7 million (5M-2017: USD 12.8 million). It was followed by Chile, with USD 10.6 million (5M-2017: USD 10.9 million), Spain with USD 6.1 million and Brazil with USD 3.7 million. Peruvian imports of PB/MDP of Spanish origin showed the highest growth in the first five months of 2018 (+ 37.6%).
The main importer in 5M-2018 was Novopan Peru with USD 15.2 million (5M-2017: USD 12.3 million), which represented a strong growth of 23.9% and a 40.8% share total imports of PB/MDP in the country. The Martin Group followed with imports of USD 5.8 million, which represented a strong growth of 35.1% and a 15.5% share of total imports.
Arauco Peru was the importing company whose imports fell the most, going from USD 5.5 million registered in 5M-2017 to USD 4.9 million in 5M-2018 (-11.4%).
