BRAZIL – Brazilian furniture exports had a good start reaching USD 42.7 million in January 2018, a 9.6% increase compared to January 2017 which reported exports for USD 39.0 million.
For the three top foreign markets (United States, United Kingdom and Argentina) exports in January reached USD 21.4 million, representing 50.1% of the total exports. In January 2017 exports to these markets reached USD 19.0 million, which represented 48.7% of the total.
However, in January furniture imports were up 15.8%, from USD 45.1 million in January 2017 to USD 51.6 million in January 2018. China also increased its share in the Brazilian market, from 30.7% of imports in January 2017 to almost 38% in the first month of 2018.
Therefore in January Brazil had a furniture trade deficit of USD 8.9 million compared to a deficit of USD 6.1 million in January 2017.
