U.S. – South Shore Furniture, based in Sainte-Croix, Quebec, Canada will start construction on a 130,000-square-foot warehouse and transfer center in El Paso, TX to handle a growing demand for its products manufactured in Juárez, Mexico.

767SOUTHSHORE South Shore will invest USD 8 million in the warehouse.

Founded in Quebec in 1940, South Shore Furniture has been selling unassembled (RTA) furniture in the U.S. since the early 1980s. The company decided in the 1990s that its future lay in online sales of ready-to-assemble furnishings (RTA).

The company has 1,000 employees working at six locations that involve the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners – three cities in the U.S., two in Quebec, Canada, and one in Juárez, Mexico.

Goods manufactured in Juárez go first to the El Paso warehouse and then to distribution centers in Salt Lake City and Nashville.

“Investing in a new El Paso warehouse now just made sense”, said Nicole Basenach, the company’s vice president of consumer experience.

“We are seeing constant double-digit growth, so we invested in the expansion of the Juárez plant in 2015,” Basenach said. “We invested in our logistics network in the U.S. in 2016 – the Nashville, Salt Lake City warehouses. Now we are investing, versus renting, in El Paso.”
